Marina Bay Street Circuit

Race weekend features the main event kicking off at 13:00 BST on race day.

Live updates provided on BBC Radio 5 Sports Extra and mobile app.

Opening Round Highlights

The team's Spanish veteran set the pace beating Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and Red Bull's Max Verstappen during the opening session for the street circuit event.

McLaren's title rivals Australian rookie and Lando Norris wrapped up the practice in fifth and sixth.

Piastri was a notable margin faster than his teammate.

Alonso was a slim margin ahead of Leclerc and a clear gap quicker than Verstappen.

The Italian squad's Lewis Hamilton was just outside the top three.

Car Performance

Unlikely that Aston Martin will be in the mix for pole position.

Nonetheless, the squad are confident of a better weekend on a technical venue that is better matched to their chassis, which performs better when significant amounts of aerodynamic grip are called for.

Double world title winner Alonso is also famous as a street circuit master, and often shines on the night race venue.

But he was likely operating with reduced weight or a more aggressive setting than his rivals, or each, to post the fastest lap.

Practice Conditions

Partner Lance Stroll was almost two seconds behind in the lower order.

Stroll had issues with his cockpit during the initial runs and was also testing experimental parts.

FP1 in Marina Bay is not reflective of race pace under lights as it is run in daylight in the daytime, while grid-deciding session and the grand prix are run after dark.

Championship Standings

Piastri leads his teammate by a quarter-century with the final stretch ahead heading into the event in Singapore.

The Woking-based team are set to clinch the team title on race day.

Single possibility they can not tie it up in Singapore is if Mercedes beat them by over thirty or the Scuderia manage it by 35.

Competitor Outlook

The energy drink brand's team are optimistic of a good performance after Verstappen's victories in Monza and Baku leading into this weekend.

The team breathed a sigh when precipitation occurring before the session cleared by the point the machines took to the track on a track that had stayed clear.

Motorsport adviser the Austrian stated ahead of practice that they wanted a clear session to make a comprehensive start on understanding their set-up for the Grand Prix.
