Exploring a Unusual Steam Demo: Controlling a Turdy Character on a Quest to Reach the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have encountered plenty of engaging indie games. Yet, one stands out for its offbeat concept. Called Unko Technica, this retro-inspired side-scrolling game lets you play a character that is literally a turd attempting to navigate to a restroom. As a fun fact, "Unko" means "poop."

Player controls is straightforward: just use a jump control. In 150 challenges, battle mini-bosses and visit a store to purchase skins for your fecal avatar.

Execute your movements carefully, as a error requires starting over. Jump on floating orbs to hurl the poop to new heights, navigate crumbling ledges, and interact with switches to reveal secret routes. Collect coins and use them on tougher game content where the action ramps up.

In terms of design, the game shows off eye-catching environments and an amazing background music. The simple graphics of morphing abstract forms could recall fans of beloved games like Earthbound.

While it's difficult to recall other games where you play as a dung character, video games have long included scatological themes. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, you can create grenades from protagonist excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved utilize manure as soil enrichment. Naturally, this theme is present extensively in Obsidian's adventure The Stick of Truth.

Regardless of its goofy idea, Unko Technica has already garnered notable awards, such as taking top honors at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. This trial version is ready at present on Steam, with the full game set to debut on PC in the fall.
